A decade ago, around 80 percent of the international humanitarian budget went to victims of natural disasters. Now, that number has flipped, with about 80 percent of funding going to victims of violent conflict.

In this episode of A Deeper Look, I speak with Nancy Lindborg, President of the United States Institute of Peace. We discuss the challenges and solutions to preventing, resolving and countering violent extremism.

Nancy and I take a deeper look at the building blocks for effective peace processes, the role that social media plays both in fomenting and countering extremism, and what community, national and multinational actors can do to promote peacebuilding.

This year’s theme for A Deeper Look podcast is Humanitarian Crises and Emergency Response. You can listen on iTunes, SoundCloud or wherever you get your podcasts. I invite you to subscribe and join the conversation by leaving a comment, submitting a rating or sharing this episode on social media.
